Matsya Asana


In Sanskrit 'matsya' means fish. One can swim in water like a fish in this asana. In this pose the body resembles a fish.


How to proceed : perform Padmasana first. Sit with legs stretched in front. Then wtih the help of hands bring the right foot on the left thight, and the left foot on the right thigh. This is called Padmasana or lotus poes. Then lie down on the ground with legs crossed as in padmasana. Hold the toes by the hands and lift the chest and waist upwards, curving the spine so that the top of the head lies flat on the floor. Concentrate on the space between eyebrows and breath deeply.

duration : A few seconds to two minutes.

Gains : This exercise removes diseases of stomach , lungs and neck and makes the spine elastic; develops the capacity of lungs.
